Pro Kabaddi 2019 – Post Auction Team Stack-Up

The Vivo Pro Kabaddi will see its seventh edition coming around this summer in 2019. With the auctions having gone underway on April 8th & 9th, many players were released and bought, including some very strange buys and transfers of icon players. Let us see how the twelve PKL teams stack up after the auction.

Bengal Warriors

Image result for Bengal warriors

  • Squad Strength: 19
  • Overseas Players: 2
  • Raiders: Bhuvneshwar Gaur, K. Prapanjan, Maninder Singh, Mohammad Taghi Paein Mahali*, Rakesh Narwal, Ravindra Ramesh Kumawat, Sukesh Hegde
  • Cover Defenders: Sahil, Vijin Thangadurai, Jeeva Kumar, Viraj Vishnu Landge
  • Corner Defenders: Amit, Baldev Singh, Adarsh T, Dharmendra Singh, Rinku Narwal
  • Allrounders: Amir Santosh Dhumal, Avinash A.R, Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibaksh*

Bengal Warriors did a few costly releases before the auction, letting their experienced skipper Surjeet Singh and star all-rounder Ran Singh go. They however picked some proper replacements in the name of the experienced Prapanjan, Sukesh Hegde and Jeeva Kumar from neighbouring teams.

Bengaluru Bulls

Image result for Bengaluru bulls

  • Squad Strength: 17
  • Overseas Players: 2
  • Raiders: Banty, Lal Mohar Yadav*, Pawan Sehrawat, Rohit Kumar, Sumit Singh, Vinod Kumar
  • Cover Defenders: Mohit Sehrawat, Mahender Singh, Amit Sheoran, Ajay
  • Corner Defenders: Raju Lal Choudhary, Vijay Kumar, Aman, Sandeep, Ankit
  • Allrounders: Ashish Kumar, Sanjay Shreshta*

Bengaluru Bulls did not like the concept of starting afresh and retained the core of their squad. They surprisingly released star raiders Kashilling Adake and Harish Naik. They made up for this by buying rising players like Vijay Kumar and Sanjay Shreshta from the Patna and Pune Franchises respectively.

Dabang Delhi K.C

Image result for Dabang delhi

  • Squad Strength: 15
  • Overseas Players: 2
  • Raiders: Aman Kadian, Chandran Ranjit, Naveen Kumar, Neeraj Narwal, Sumit Kumar
  • Cover Defenders: Vishal Mane, Anil Kumar, Saeid Ghaffari*, Satywan,
  • Corner Defenders: Pratik Patil, Ravinder Pahal, Joginder Singh Narwal, Sombir
  • Allrounders: Meraj Sheykh*, Vijay

Dabang Delhi K.C decided to retain and buy almost their entire squad of the 2018 season. They got back their star players of the previous season including Ravinder, Vishal, Joginder, Naveen and Meraj Sheykh, but also tried out new ones like Vijay and Saeid Ghaffari, who can contribute.

3. Chandran Ranjit

Image result for Chandran ranjit

The name Chandran Ranjit never came to the lights in his first few seasons. Having played for Telugu Titans and Gujarat Fortunegiants, for both franchises he did not contribute much. Usually, players are thrown into dust after a performance like this, but that did not happen.

It all started only after he was bought by the current franchise (Delhi). After a strong pre-season training, he came in as an ultimately new raider. He finished his season with a highly satisfying 153 raid points, and when compared to previous records, this can be named as a colossal comeback. After a stunning performance, Delhi will want to have him in their camp for the next season, and won’t seem to release him off.

2. Meraj Sheykh

Image result for meraj sheykh

Honing both his raiding and defending skills, Iran’s Meraj Sheykh has become one of the finest all-rounders currently playing in VIVO Pro Kabaddi. He had already signed his name in record books as one of the best all-rounders, who is almost impossible to be tackled. He also specializes on the death hard move of Scorpion Kick.

He went through a mediocre season in terms of point collection. He managed only 94 raid points from his share of 19 matches. But what makes him unique is that when the team is in massive pressure he turns the pressure towards the opponent to immediately grab a victory. Since he was one of the key players who took the team to their first playoff, they will not drop him from the team for certain.

1. Naveen Kumar

Related image

Recognized as the next Pardeep Narwal, Naveen Kumar is one of the most dangerous and finest raiders of Kabaddi History. In his debut campaign in VIVO Pro Kabaddi in Season 6, Naveen Kumar rose up the ranks from the get go. A firm believer in practicing his skills to perfection, he has made the Running Hand Touch his staple move, using it to good effect.

He immediately picked up the key raider spot for Dabang Delhi. A 2000 born player, he took a stunning 172 raid points which is unbelievable for a player in that age. In Pressure Situations and even Ultra Pressure Situations, the opponent team which is leading, will find it so difficult to tackle him, and immediately will turn the game in Delhi’s favor. The big risen star will be one of the biggest fights in the auction, if he is released.

Top 3 Defenders from UP Yoddha

3. Sachin Kumar

Image result for Sachin kumar up yodha

Sachin Kumar is a rookie player from UP Yoddha, a defender, who is a handy raider as well. He opened his career door to the Dabang Delhi Camp, spending two years there in 2015 and the January Season of 2016. He went unsold on June 2016, but returned to Bengaluru Bulls in 2017. However, he was very little help as he contributed only a raid point and six tackle points for them.

But in 2018, he was picked up by UP Yoddha, and boy was he a good buy. He played all 25 matches for his team and contributed a mammoth 47 tackle points and 25 raid points, so much better compared to former records. His 25 raid points also assures him a raiding place in his team. He picked up 2 High 5s and 4 super tackles, and will form an alliance with other important defenders of his team.

2. Jeeva Kumar

Image result for jeeva kumar

A veteran defender of the Kabaddi world, Jeeva Kumar has earned a reputation for being a master of the Super Tackle with his ability to remain calm in pressure situations and tackle raiders with minimal support. Kumar starred in U Mumba’s title winning campaign in Season 2 of VIVO Pro Kabaddi. In Season 5, he represented UP Yoddha and grabbed the award for the highest super tackle tally. This feat was accomplished by him also in Season 2, but as a serving for U Mumba.

In the recent season, he stood with 40 tackle points, and four super tackles. He also bagged a high five in one of his matches. But when you see overall performance, the defender bagged a dangerous tally of 195 tackle points with a humongous 21 super tackles. With these records, he ought to be a must buy for UP Yoddha to support other defenders, and of course, the super tackles need a high tally, and only he can help that happen with no difficulties.

1. Nitesh Kumar

Image result for nitesh kumar kabaddi

Nitesh Kumar is one among those defenders, such as Manjeet Chhillar and Surender Nada to make records and break them, and make them and break them again. The youngster started his career only in 2017, as he was bought by the new UP Yoddha franchise. He started with a decent 47 tackle points, and had his name in the season’s top twenty defender list.

But 2018 was a different story. The decent defending debutant had became a super giant of defenders. He zoomed past the list and helped UP Yoddha build a strong defensive wall, and also lead the defense very well. He was constantly in the third place, but once UP Yoddha were in sticky situations for qualifying, he improved his game, and started building his place up the table. He bagged six tackle points in Yoddha’s final match to become the first ever defender in the history of Pro Kabaddi to pick up 100 tackle points. He also bagged best defender award, and also overtook Parvesh and Fazel in the table.

If this goes on, Nitesh will become one of the best defenders in Kabaddi History, and his performance is crucial for whatever team he is representing.

Top 3 Raiders from UP Yoddha In Season 6.

3. Rishank Devadiga

Related image

Rishank Devadiga cannot be an unfamiliar name for any kabaddi follower at all. The fast paced raider is known as one of India’s most prominent raiders alongside Pardeep Narwal, Nitin Tomar and Rahul Chaudhari. He helped U Mumba come a long way in the first few seasons under skipper Anup Kumar. He was bought by UP Yoddha, a new franchise, in 2017, and had to play as the helping raider for Nitin Tomar. He took 170 points from his quota of matches, a very good total for a secondary raider. In 2018, he was put as captain once Tomar was moved to the Puneri Paltan. He was pretty much out of form in the recent season, picking up 104 from 23 matches, not at all what we expect of him, placing him at third place here. But Rishank Devadiga is a very dangerous raider and he can regain form any time, and that moment will be danger for the defenders all over.

2. Shrikant Jadhav

Related image

Shrikant Jadhav is never as famous as Rishank Devadiga, nor as experienced, but still his name can be a whole lot familiar. The Acrobatic Raider picked up an outstanding 141 raid points, with 5 tackle points and a super tackle, which means he cannot be underestimated in Defence or Offence. He spent most of his career serving Bengal Warriors, and helping it bounce back every time it fell apart. He was one of its top raiders along with Jang Kun Lee, and for a little while, Nitin Tomar. He moved to U Mumba in Season 5, playing decently with 86 raid points. In 2018 auction was when the Yoddha signed him in the auction, and that was a very good thing to do. If his motivation and form remains he can even lead the raiding department, and will be well guided by skipper Rishank Devadiga.

1. Prashanth Kumar Rai

Related image

You, and even I, must surely agree that Prashanth Kumar Rai has never been a very familiar name in Pro Kabaddi. But once 2018 season started, it had to be. The amateur raider started playing from 2014 itself, but was never mentioned much, and contributed only a little, as he was overwhelmed by more professional raiders in the squad. This was the time he played for Titans and Dabang Delhi. In 2017, he was picked up by the Steelers to add an extra arm in the raid arsenal, alongside Vikas Kandola. He picked up a stunning 16 points against the Fortunegiants to prove his worth. In 2018, he added a better rhyme to the story, and paired with Shrikant Jadhav as Rishank Devadiga was out of form. He picked a whopping 144 raid points with 3 tackle points as well, the highest tally for UP Yoddha. He will definitely remain prominent for Yoddha even if the biggest raiders enter the UP camp.

Top 5 Raiders from Gujarat Fortune Giants

5. Mahendra Ganesh Rajput

Image result for mahendra ganesh rajput

The stands tumble when the name of Mahendra Ganesh Rajput is on display on the raider board. He has been the master of super raids throughout his career. He has had experience in Pro Kabaddi, having played for Bengal Warriors before entering the arena of the Gujarat Fortunegiants Camp. Although he was one of the best known raiders, his form has dipped down in the recent season, which results in him being placed in fifth place. He has played his share of 13 out of 25 matches, and has earned an above average 30 points, with a 6 point match. Although he can be out of form for a while, when he clicks it is absolute danger for all defenders in the opponent team, and his super raids can wipe them out in no time.

4. Dong Geon Lee

Image result for dong geon lee gujarat

Dong Geon Lee is one of the brightest raiders to be playing for the Korean Team in international level, along with Jang Kun Lee. He made his PKL debut in 2017 for the Tamil Thalaivas and impressed a lot, winning many awards for man of the match. 2018 has been a bit downfall but still is not anything bad. He averages 2 points per match, which is not bad, and also picked up his maiden super raid of the season. He picked up one super raid for the season. He has not performed as well as he does for his own country Korea but he sure has been included for many matches and is a vital overseas player for the Fortunegiants. In the overseas pool of the auction, he will be a long battle between franchises and will settle after a long while for sure.

3. Rohit Gulia

Image result for rohit gulia

Rohit Gulia is known as a master of do or die raids or a do or die raider. He is one of the few raiders in the league who can perform well under no pressure during high pressure situations. He made his debut in 2017 for the Fortunegiants and did not impress much, but in 2018, he averaged 3 raid points per match, much better for his previous records and his level and standards. Once in 2018, he was brought to the mat in the last few minutes, and stitched a stunning super raid under enormous pressure, to take the Fortunegiants to the lead within seconds. His high score is 1 point short of a super 10, that is 9. Rohit Gulia, if he continues with the Gujarat Fortunegiants, can be a huge plus and can really perform major feats, especially during pressure situations.

2. K. Prapanjan

Image result for k prapanjan

K Prapanjan, who hails from Kabaddi Land Tamil Nadu, is a raider who I reckon is to be not taken lightly. He started his career from 2015, playing for U Mumba, and he then continued for Telugu Titans in 2016. But 2017, when he was picked up by his home team Tamil Thalaivas, he showed his full attitude and became the secondary raider for the team after Ajay Thakur, and picked up 123 points from his 22 matches. For Gujarat Fortunegiants, he appeared in 22 out of 25 matches as their secondary raider and jumped to full responsibility whenever Sachin Tanwar was out of form, or out of the mat. He picked up 4 super 10s and a super raid in the season, with his best score coming out as 12. He will be prominent for the Fortunegiants for a long time from now.

1. Sachin Tanwar

Image result for sachin tanwar

Sachin Tanwar is a legendary debutant for sure. The young nineteen year old made his debut in the 2017 season, and picked up 173 points, and played well enough to bag the best debutant award. In 2018, he became their star and most important raider of the team Gujarat Fortunegiants after Sukesh Hegde was bought by Thalaivas. He lead the Fortunegiants to a very respectable position and to the grand finale as well. Even though the Fortunegiants lost the finale, Sachin was a vital part of the team and tried his best to take the Fortunegiants close to the trophy. He picked up a stunning 190 his share of 23 matches, together with a whopping seven super tens and a super raid. He also picked up 16 tackle points, proving prominent in defending as well. It was very obvious that without him, Gujarat would have never prospered much in the raiding department.

Top 5 Raiders from the Bengaluru Bulls in Season 6

5. Sumit Singh

Image result for sumit singh pkl

The young raider from the Bengaluru Bulls really showed his worth this season, well enough to gain a place here in the top five. He hasn’t got many chances, but in the few matches he got in this season, the inexperienced youngster performed really well for his standards. He took fifteen raid points from eight matches, with a decent average of 1.37 which is not bad at all for his experience and age. He also picked up four tackle points, with a strike rate of 40%, being vital for the defence as well. He represented Bengaluru Bulls from the beginning. He was unsold in the 2nd and 3rd seasons, but returned for the Bulls in June 2016. He will sure be important for the Bulls, if they buy him next season, in offence and defence as well.

4. Harish Naik

Image result for harish naik pkl

Harish Naik is yet another youngster from the Bulls’ squad. He is one year younger than Sumit, and has played one match lesser as well. But he has performed exceptional and well enough to place him in fourth. In many occasions, the young man has stood up and helped the Bulls gain momentum when Rohit Kumar or Sehrawat are in the benches. He has an appealing height just like fellow raider Kashilling Adake to help him raid swiftly. He has picked up 21 points from 7 matches with an average of 3.00, good for his standards. His top score was 9, just a point short from a Super 10. Naik will want to continue serving Bengaluru Bulls like he did from his starting of his career, and help them come a long way.

3. Kashilling Adake

Image result for kashiling adake pkl

Kashilling Adake is a definite contender in Top 3, with excellent records in the past. Having spent his career majorly for Dabang Delhi and also for U Mumba, the tall and acrobatic raider is completely threat for all teams, specializing in the frog jump and kick. Although he wasn’t as threatening in this season, he is very helpful when Rohit Kumar and Sehrawat are in the bench or out of form. He picked up 67 from 20 matches with a super 10. He also took 17 tackle points, unlikely for a raider. But overall he picked up 612 points in his lifetime with 6 points per match. Adake can click any time, and if he gets underestimated he can perform major feats, and can single handedly help Bengaluru Bulls win even without Rohit or Pawan.

2. Rohit Kumar

Image result for rohit kumar pkl

Rohit Kumar Chhillar, known as Rohit Kumar is an absolutely outstanding performer from Debut. He started off in his debut season with 109 points for Patna Pirates. He spent his career first for the Pirates, but then joined the Bulls as their skipper. The acrobatic frog jumper has picked up 171 points in his 24 matches this season, with his maiden High 5 coming too, proving his worth in defence too. The latter is also a brilliant captain, bringing responsibilities for youngsters and amateurs to develop them and the morale of the team. He lead the Bulls to championship in PKL 6. He took 32 points in just one match against the Yoddha in Season 5 making it one of the big records. He will be mostly retained by the Bulls for the next season, and will be looking to lead the Bulls to a second championship streak.

1. Pawan Kumar Sehrawat

Image result for pawan sehrawat

Pawan Sehrawat has been playing PKL for already a while now since 2016 January, but 2018 will be an exception in his career. Even though Rohit Kumar has more records than him in overall, Pawan Sehrawat cannot be taken lightly. He bagged a mammoth 281 points in 24 matches with an average of a super 10 per match. He picked up 13 super 10s in the season, and performed exceptionally well in every match. He took over Rohit Kumar’s responsibilities as lead raider, and lead their raiding department well enough, performing excellent in the finale to grab the trophy away from the Fortunegiants’ reach. He has also represented the Fortunegiants in 2017, and the Bulls already in 2016 January and June. I reckon he will be retained by the Bulls, and will of course again lead them to a respectable position.

What makes a Good Score in the limited overs formats?

One Day:

One Day Cricket is a neither quick nor very slow version of the game of cricket. So the run rate will be a wild card between the quick pacing Twenty20s and the slow and steady Test Matches.

If you want only to successfully defend it, even with normal quality bowling, I might say 250 is a good score, which is 5 runs per over. Good bowling can defend 4 or 4.5, but it’s real risky to hit, and does not encourage the speed needed while playing such a format. It could be achieved pretty easily if we take it seriously and know what we are doing while playing.

7 or 8 are recorded as mammoth totals and are pretty hard to chase. But 6? Yes. 6 is perfect when it comes to playing ODIs. Almost all teams will be able to hit above 300 regularly while first batting, making it perfect for One Day Cricket. And also, some teams might think it’s monstrous, and will end up scoring less due to stress during chasing.

Even New Zealand easily hits 300+ scores most of their time.

A little reduction like 280 or 285 won’t harm. The bowling will be at least to an extent good, so it is highly possible to be defended. It is not too far away from 300. If you want to play safe, and have an ODI worthy total, I will prefer 280 or 290.

But normally, I would say 300 is perfect.

T20:

I think in T20s you will have to score above 160 if you want to maintain a defendable total. Sometimes, if the bowling is exceptional, 140-150 can be defended, but to be safe, at least 8.00 RPO is needed. If you hit around 150, the opponent will probably take advantage of your bowling (Unless it is exceptionally good) and hit you for many boundaries and probably take them to an RPO 10.00 Win.

But T20Is are games where it is intended to play in a fast, quick scoring manner. You know what I mean. This means, even when it is defendable, never get settled happy for 160. So 175-190 is the key. 9.00 RPO is perfect for T20 cricket. It was the same thing said by Dhoni. And you don’t need to big hit all the time to achieve this, unless there is high quality bowling.

These days we see only 140-160 frequently in T20Is. These are around 7 runs per over, which is just 5 singles and a double. If you see that properly, five singles and a double is not quick scoring at all. Which means, it is not proper T20I cricket at all. If they play like this, neither can they win, or live up to T20 expectations, nor attract many people to watch.

So after all, perfect score for T20 cricket is 180.

T10:

T10 is a super fast paced cricket in the new generation. The only T10 games broadcasted internationally is the famous T10 league featuring Indian franchises in the UAE.

Usually, we see only 90-95 runs in T10 matches. People might be happy with that, but I cannot disagree more. Already 9 RPO is perfect for T20, then T10 should be much higher? Why should they score around the same level?

Defendable totals include 100-110 in T10 cricket. If bowling is good, we can be happy with just 100. But these only mean that it can lead them to victory, but doesn’t mean that it actually is suitable for the speed of the format.

If T20 is 9, then T10 has to be somewhat more higher. The highest score is 130. This is totally ridiculous, because I am guessing that 125 should be the actual ideal score for T10s. It is like 2 runs a ball. 12.5 runs per over. If the cricketers are good smashers of sixes, why can’t they use that power to smash some sixes and plus some aggressive ground shots as well? This can easily increase their run rate to get a handy score.

So, the ideal T10 score is definitely 125.
